Trivial to reproduce.
This is a long-standing classic configuration bug.
We should have a configure check to tell you "Sorry, your compiler, in
combination with the selected flags, is unable to support the atomic operations
which are required for libc. Consider adding -march=i486 or higher to your
CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS."
