It works for me starting from a clean checkout.

bjg|debian> automake --version
automake (GNU automake) 1.4-p4
bjg|debian> autoconf --version
autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.53
bjg|debian> libtool --version
ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 1.4.2a (1.922.2.79 2001/11/28 21:50:31)

now results from ./autogen.sh look good for a clean checkout with the older version of automake, but not with


automake (GNU automake) 1.7.5 .

In addition, it turns out, that version-ref.texi is missing in the
cvs archive.
