I have not yet studied the patches, but will they retain compatibility with existing code? I have about a dozen programmes that use the old syntax, and would not welcome an incompatible change for reasons only of syntatic flavourfulness. That said I accept your point, the existing functions are a direct translation of the c versions. Arguably connect and bind in their current versions should be connect! and bind!.
