The Ssh v2 protocol was designed to be patent-free, i.e. there are no
patents associated with any of the required algorithms.

Ssh v2 seems like a really good protocol, btw.  The only problem right
now is a darth of free implementations.  Like Klaus said, work is
progressing on a GNU implementation; snapshots of the work in progress
can be found at "http://www.lysator.liu.se/~nisse/archive/".
