Jay Glascoe did release a hash table implementation (link? I just have
a tarball right now).

Maciej Stachowiak posted a patch for this (I haven't tested it
yet). If the mail archives aren't working you can pick it up from
http://home.thezone.net/~gharvey/guile/patches (it's the last one in
the patches list).
