Yes, I will check it in as soon as I have tested, and may well make it
into the next official Guile release. I am hoping to get some testing
done shortly (as in - in a few minutes) but no promises.

I would appreciate help with testing. Note that it is glibc-2.1
specifically that makes a difference; things should work significantly
differently in that case than with glibc-2.0.
