I would be sorry to see the facility disappear completely. Shared
substrings (in the sense that all clients sees an update) is a good
vehicle for buffers as they often appear in communications related
code.

So why they can be good reason to change normal strings to share until
written to, there will be applications that will need such shared
memory.
