Oh that's fine to hear and yes I do  think Perl is nice for text
handling but e.g SCSH has now nice features  which might be even more
powerful than perls regexp. I don't know if you have tried scsh V 0.5.2
but if not, it may be worth a look. 

Besides it may be useful to port the SRE to Guile.
