glibc-2.1.1pre1 and dip problems

Something like a week ago I reported that dip was crashing on opening the
connection under linux-2.2.x, x > 5. I'm happy to report that
glibc-2.1.1pre2, linux-2.2.8-pre4, egcs-19990502, binutils-2.9.1.0.24 work
fine together. The dip binary is from RedHat-5.9.7.
