Kevin,
Well as far as we know this bug could be pre-existing for awhile. I checked
and Debian sid/woody is building glibc 2.2.4 with -O2. So we would have never
tickled this bug. I don't know what is currently being distributed for the
various ppclinux vendors in terms of glibc (i.e. if anyone of them ships
a glibc built with -O3 yet). I had thought we were being conservative on this
and sticking with -O2 in general.
