Ok, thanks to Roland for rearranging the code so it works.

It's still completely beyond me how this happened. I sent Roland my
config.status and my build tree file list to see if he can point
anything odd.  But I still have the build tree to prove that I had FPU
and non-FPU builds that passed make check.

Yeah yeah yeah, I could be smoking crack, but I'd like to know how and
where ;-).
