Aldy,
    Logically either the fpu or non-fpu build was bound to fail 
with the previous code assuming that the directories were always
ordered the same way on the config-sysdirs list in config.make.
You must have just gotten lucky (or unlucky in this case).
Could you do a non-fpu build on current glibc cvs and confirm
that your code there is still working okay?
