I hacked up your patch to fix the mutual recursion in init-arch.c and it's working just fine.

In the future please post WIP patches even if they are ugly, it stops me from guessing. Code speaks loudest.
That WIP probably wouldn't be of much value as it layers on top of the patches we've already installed into Fedora to deal with these issues.

With F17 reaching release-candidate stage, I'll be resyncing the Fedora development sources with the official glibc sources shortly. That'll make sharing WIP of this nature easier.
