In make command lines, most of those were chosen for how the expanded
command line looks in make output. (Keep in mind that ${objpfx} usually
expands to something failry long.) In scripts where you don't see such
expaneded output, they were probably chosen for what looks nicest in the
source (viz line wrapping and such). It really doesn't matter.
