endless loops (?) on alpha with linuxthreads tests

On Linux alpha 2.0.33 with kernel headers 2.1.108, egcs 1.0.3 I
compiled the glibc 2.1 cvs version from 19980730 and got some what
seems to be endless loops during make linuxthreads/tests.

The first test is running for more than 8 minutes now without
producing any output :-(.

There're also other errors during make check, e.g. test-assert dumps
core.

Is this a (known?) problem of running Linux 2.0.33, of egcs 1.0.3 or
of glibc 2.1? I'm trying to install egcs-1.1 now to check this
dependency.
