I don't like this.  And I don't care about IA-64, there is no user
base to worry about.  But I care about Alpha.  I'll probably just make
the new types configurable. so that the protocol does not change for
Alpha.  For IA-64: kill nscd.  For SPARC64 and MIPS64 likewise: there
are no users to worry about.
