The common thread here is that people want to build glibc differently
for different distros.

Someone should try to get the options infrastructure merged from
eglibc[1] to glibc.

At the very least this allows one to drape new features on top of the
existing framework.

If existing distros don't want the new features, they wouldn't enable them.

Contributed features would have an assigned maintainer, easing the
maintenance burden on core developers.
