Bug ID: 16148
Summary: Incorrect thousands separator for ca_ES locale
Product: glibc
Version: unspecified
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: localedata
Assignee: unassigned at sourceware dot org
Reporter: jmas at softcatala dot org
CC: libc-locales at sourceware dot org
Hello,
The current thousands separator definition for ca_ES locale is incorrect.
In Catalan speaking areas the "." is used to separate thousands in groups of 3
digits. You can see Windows as example[1].
If I ran:
printf("%'d\n", 1123456789)
I get:
1123456789
where the expected output will be:
1.123.456.789
I'm not an expert in glibc, but it seems that the current locale data for ca_ES
is:
LC_NUMERIC
decimal_point "<U002C>"
thousands_sep ""
grouping 0;0
END LC_NUMERIC
when it really should be:
LC_NUMERIC
decimal_point "<U002C>"
thousands_sep "<U002E>"
grouping 3;3
END LC_NUMERIC
The rest of locales that inherit from ca_ES like ca_IT or ca_FR should use the
same configuration for the thousands separator.
Let me know if you need any additional information or clarification
