newlib-1.8.0 and egcs-1.0.1 configure

	Can newlib-1.8.0 configure and egcs-1.0.1 configure work together?
I tried merging newlib into the egcs-1.0.1 hierarchy, but the newlib
subdirectory was not configured with everything else.  newlib does not have
a "configure" file in the subdirectory like other distributions, so I do
not know if this is a fundamental incompatibility or cockpit error on my
part that I cannot recognize.
