I just can't help saying - it's not really "the existing libelf ABI" but "YOUR existing libelf ABI" that is set - ie the one that doesn't match every other implementation. The REAL libelf ABI (ie the original SVR4 that FSF libelf correctly implements) says differently. Just for perspective, Google "libelf" and all but one result on the front page points to implementations/articles referring to other "libelfs".

I'm hoping this isn't a case of RedHat trying to shout down the original/FSF libelf versions... honestly, it really wouldn't be an issue if RedHat-based distros didn't recently start putting the incompatible one in their base installation. I guess you may not realize how much these little details affect people. But why bother trying to implement your own version of libelf at all if it's not the same?
