- Subject: systemtap server vs the firewall
The past couple days I have been looking at why the systemtap server wasn't
working on an ia64 machine. There are more details about the issue at:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=519989
It appears that the firewall can interfere with the operation of avahi even when
only looking for servers on a local machine. The udp port 5353 needs to be
allowed through the firewall. It is not allowed by default in fedora 11 or 12
(rawhide) I found allowing upd port 5353 seems to allow the server to work on
fedora 11 and 12 (rawhide).
