It's been about 2 1/2 months since the last release, and under the
more-frequent release schedule, that means it's time to start thinking
about 7.4. Here's how the feature list is looking (not all of these
are finished!):
Program:
* Support for cell-filling ("large") unit images
* More accurate viewing for stacks of units
* Isometric rotatable map display option (Unix/Win only)
* Xt/Xaw interface no longer available
* Networked games are more reliable
* Many Mac interface improvements
* More feedback for player actions
Library:
* Advances in History has per-side instead of per-unit research
* Africa 1850 simplifies getting on/off ships, fixes view bugs
I also have a modernized version of the standard game in the works,
with many more unit types (about 40 I think), but it will probably
have to wait for 7.5.
I'm also thinking about implementing an idea that's come up periodically,
which is to attach version numbers to library games and use that to filter
the new game list. (More on that later.)
The kind folks running sources.redhat have also set up the machinery
for reporting Xconq bugs with gnats, and we'll be able to use that to
track bugs for this release.
Incidentally, I've been assuming that people who want to track the
latest code are able to get it via CVS. If this is not true, then
we need a volunteer to make ftpable tarballs and/or binary builds.
