Well, for Latin-1 that works. But what about when we add Klingon?
(we really should....).
Of course I suppose we want to transliterate Klingon (greek, Cyrillic,
Japanese, &c), into latin characters, so that's not such a good
example. But something like Esperanto or Czech(?) or various other
languages are mostly latin but with a few characters from Latin-2 or
Latin-3.
UTF-8 is the most general solution. So I'd probably rather do that
than Latin-1 (in both cases we can start out with a few special case
hacks rather than a full implementation).
