I think the problem with network games is not being considered seriously
enough. I know a lot of people who used to play XConq on regular basis
(me included) when the multiple display X version was still working. Not
muliplayer XConq is basically so buggy nobody can play it. It has lost
many (if not most) of its players because of that.
If the problems/bugs causing the syncing are so hidden, implementing an
automatic restoring algorythm should be top priority. No amount of
developping and fixing games will convince me to play a game that won't
last 10 turns. Any commercial networked game (even the very bad) has at
least some amount of tolerance to lossing sync, even where there are no
bugs in the kernel that would cause it to do it in perfect condition.
If the bug can't be fixed, it has to be worked around.
