Improved network code for xconq

I have now checked in the latest changes to the network code. A number of
problems have been fixed, including several sources of sync errors and
lockups. The network game now works without problems on the Mac. On Unix,
there are still some unresolved problems, so all sync errors are
unfortunately not gone, even if things have improved a lot.

Some things have not been fixed yet on either platform. There is no support
for games with advances. If you turn off the AI you will get sync errors
immediately (it is OK to turn it on, but then you must leave it on). You
will also get a sync error when you quit the game. Saving and restoring of
network games remains to be fixed.

I would be interested to hear how the code works in real life now. I do all
my debugging using two programs on one machine, usually both under AI
control. This setup differs a lot from two human players on different
machines.
