I think this is a manifestation of a bug that has been around for
quite some time. I have noticed this in slightly different
contexts.
Also the "prefixarg" does not get cleared out as it should. If one
cancels a command, then the previous numeric repeat argument is
recycled rather than reset. I had intended to fix it soon, but
from skimming later posts, it looks like Hans has volunteered to
do it.

Interesting. I will look into it as soon as I get settled into my
