That itself must be a source of much difficulty. With CSS, the rule has to
be, "your mileage may vary," since support for CSS is so partial and so
spotty even in the latest browsers. (Netscape 6 may be better now: one can
hope.) Even if your XSL is good (and there's no reason at this point to
think it isn't), a browser won't necessarily do the Right Thing with the CSS.

http://www.webstandards.org has some good coverage and pointers to CSS
conformance issues and workarounds.

Too bad. Strong support for CSS would be great, and would take us much of
the way (though not all the way) to a real layout description language such
as XSL Formatting Objects will be.

Until better browsers get real market share, the only solution is a
conservative approach to the design of your formatting (lean and clean),
and test test test. If you're delivering to a controlled audience (say, an
Intranet where you know the possible browsers), that may help things.
