If I'm not mistaken, your xsl namespace
(xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-xsl") indicates that you're using
version 2.0 of MSXML, which doesn't support either xsl:variable or xsl:sort
(though it does support xsl:order-by, which is similar to xls:sort). If you
can, upgrade to version 3.0 of MSXML--I think this is still in Beta, but it
does adhere to the XSL standards more closely, supporting xsl:variable and
xsl:sort.

Scott

Subject: can't use xsl:variable or xsl:sort
I'm using IE5.5. I'm trying to run this xsl:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-xsl" version="1.0">
<xsl:template match="/">
<xsl:for-each select="ndsOptionsMenu">
<xsl:for-each select="option">
<xsl:variable name="thisVal" select="text"/>
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:for-each>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
This isn't all I want to do but it shows my problem. When I run this I
get:
Keyword xsl:variable may not be used here.
The same thing happens with xsl:sort. Does anyone know why this is?
Thanks.
Oh, just in case here is my XML:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="ndsoptionsmenutest.xsl"?>
<ndsOptionsMenu>
<title>XML/XSL Demo (Options)</title>
<option>
<text>Use Customer?</text>
<value>Y</value>
</option>
<option>
<text>Use Sales Rep?</text>
<value>Y</value>
</option>
</ndsOptionsMenu>
