It's not a standard yet, but it'll be available implicitly (you won't
even have to use a function) in XSLT 1.1.
Xalan has an equivalent function: xalan:nodeset() that does the same
thing. Have a look at
http://xml.apache.org/xalan-j/extensionslib.html#nodeset.
