Well, see my other replies about only wanting this in a particular template,
but knowing that only LF's are passed means I might be able to just watch
for them in the extension function...

note there are never any CRLF pairs after the XML parser has finished,
everything is normalised to LF (#10). However from your description I
think just adding <xsl:strip-space elements="*"/> will do the job.
that gets rid of all teh white space only nodes, and the spaces in text
nodes following commas will be kept.
