XSLT 1.0 doesn't allow this as match= patterns in template rules and key 
tables must be fixed.

Not according to the Recommendation ... some vendors provide extensions, 
but I haven't used these, and I suspect they are not available at match= 
time, only at select= time.

Have a stylesheet that writes a stylesheet ... pass your XPath in the 
command line to the stylesheet writer and then execute the written stylesheet.
