I have crafted two test executables that I would like my "freeze on startup"
testers to try.
http://www.msu.edu/~huntharo/xwin/shadow/XWin.Norm-WaitFor.NoExt.TCP.exe.bz2
(430 kB)
http://www.msu.edu/~huntharo/xwin/shadow/XWin.Norm-WaitFor.NoExt.UNIX.exe.bz
2 (424 kB)
Both tests have no extensions, excepting the Shape extension; the first test
uses TCP connections only, while the second test uses UNIX domain
connections only, so you'll have to set DISPLAY=:0.0, rather than
DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0.0. In contrast, our normal executables support nearly
all extensions and both TCP and UNIX domain connections are allowed. Note
that the second test, because it doesn't support TCP, cannot support XDMCP;
in fact, xdmcp doesn't compile without TCP, so the second test doesn't have
xdmcp at all.
I've tested both of these on my Windows 2000 machine and they work for me.
Please report your results, whether good or bad, to the list.
Realize that these test executables are not desirable for long term use, as
they lack even basic X extensions.
Thanks for testing,
Harold
