FYI this is a 'feature' of Reflection X too..
I haven't checked this with cygwin-x but Reflection also just sends
'a' if you press control/alt outside the window, move the cursor in,
and then press a..

| The problem here is that Cygwin/XFree86 sees the Alt and Ctrl presses, but
| it never sees the releases. Upon returning to the server, press and release
| the Alt key and the Ctrl key once; that sends a signal to the server that
| the keys have been released, and generally returns your keyboard operation
| to normal.
