DocBook is a schema for SGML and XML intended for technical documentation. The Cygwin distribution now includes the most common tools for building DocBook documentation, including those required to build the cygwin-doc, cygwin-x-doc, and xorg-docs packages from source.

docbook-utils is the main package, providing the docbook2* commands. Installing docbook-utils will pull in all the other tools and DTDs required by its backends for building DocBook documentation.

The DocBook DTDs and stylesheets are registered with the central SGML and XML catalogs by the tools in the sgml-common and build-docbook-catalog packages. Catalog registration is handled automatically with postinstall and preremove scripts.
